Revitalization
Considering the broken windows theory, revitalization efforts have been associated with reduced crime rates and are known to attract more business to an area. With this in mind, Stephanie has come up with and will be working on the Nehemiah Project, dedicated to revitalizing the streets and commercial areas of 61st & Peoria with the help of community members. Engaging local residents not only fosters civic pride but also contributes to crime reduction.

“If you spend any time with Stephanie, you will quickly see that her heart is always to show love to those around her-especially those who tend to be forgotten or overlooked in today’s society-by meeting their practical and spiritual needs. This year I was able to join her on a Valentine’s Day outreach to a local nursing home. Stephanie’s vision was to minister to the residents by passing out Val
A Washington DC resident attended Stephanie's "Lovolution" event. He discovered the event flyer while visiting Greenwood and thought it would perfectly complement his trip.
The event emphasized the significance of releasing hostility towards others, regardless of political, racial, or other disparities, and highlighted the negative impact of holding onto bitterness on one's health. The participant
**Barriers to Shelter Access**
Many homeless individuals I encounter on the streets report being denied shelter due to altercations. I believe these incidents are frequently fueled by untreated mental health issues. These individuals may struggle with emotional dysregulation, communication difficulties, and difficulty adhering to rules, which can lead to misunderstandings and confrontations.
Living on the streets is an incredibly stressful experience. This stress can exacerbate mental health conditions and lead to dangerous behaviors, both for the individuals themselves and for those around them. It is evident that these individuals do not belong on the streets and require a safe and supportive environment to address their challenges and help them become more stabilized and successful.I think our city could use more supportive housing structures for those with severe mental illness as well as transitional programs to help them integrate into society with support.
**Addressing Homelessness Through Mental Health and Substance Abuse Support**
As a mental health therapist and founder of a homeless initiative, I have witnessed the debilitating impact that mental illness and substance abuse disorders can have on individuals experiencing homelessness. These conditions often hinder individuals from reaching their full potential and thriving in society. I would like to ensure we are doing all we can to address mental well-being of our homeless so they can overcome challenges holding them back in life.
To effectively address homelessness, we need to provide more intensive therapeutic services for individuals with mental illness and substance abuse disorders. These services can help to stabilize individuals, reduce symptoms, and improve their coping mechanisms. By providing these services, we can create a pathway for individuals to break the cycle of homelessness and regain their independence.
**Programs**
We need to invest in more second chance programs and and programs that provide these individuals with the support and resources they need to get back on their feet. These programs can offer housing, job training, and other essential services that can help them rebuild their lives.
**Election Pledge**
If elected, I am committed to utilizing my expertise in mental health and housing to address the homelessness crisis in our city. I will work to ensure that we are doing everything we can to help our homeless citizens get the help they need to rise above their current circumstances. By providing intensive therapeutic services, reducing barriers to shelter access, investing in second chance programs and housing we can create a safer, more compassionate society for all of our city's residents.
**Addressing Tulsa's Law Enforcement Shortage and Enhancing Crime Reduction Strategies**
Tulsa faces a pressing shortage of law enforcement officers, posing a challenge. To address this issue, it is imperative to expand recruitment efforts and explore innovative approaches to reduce crime.
**Expanding Recruitment Efforts**
The city should partner with more educational institutions to offer criminal justice courses and programs. This will foster interest in law enforcement careers and increase the pool of qualified candidates. Additionally, targeted outreach programs should be implemented to attract individuals from diverse backgrounds.
**Community Policing and grants**
The Byrne Grant has proven effective in reducing crime by supporting community policing initiatives. Tulsa should leverage similar grants and funding to implement evidence-based policing strategies that foster trust between law enforcement and the community. Studies have shown that community policing can significantly reduce crime rates, making it a crucial component of a comprehensive approach to public safety.
**Bolstering Mental Health Services**
Research has established a correlation between some psychiatric disorders and criminal behavior. By bolstering mental health services, Tulsa can address some of the underlying factors that contribute to crime. Expanding access to treatment and support can help prevent individuals with certain mental health issues from engaging in criminal activity.
**Therapeutic Approach to Law Enforcement**
As a city councilor, Stephanie will prioritize working with law enforcement from a therapeutic lens. This approach emphasizes de-escalation, crisis intervention, and community partnerships to create safer neighborhoods. Unique initiatives, programs, funding, and resources will be dedicated to supporting this therapeutic approach.
**Conclusion**
Addressing Tulsa's law enforcement shortage and enhancing crime reduction strategies requires a multi-faceted approach. By expanding recruitment efforts, utilizing the Byrne Grant for community policing, bolstering mental health services, and adopting a therapeutic approach to law enforcement, Tulsa can create a safer city for all its residents. Stephanie is committed to working tirelessly to implement these measures and ensure a thriving and secure community for the future.
**Economic Growth: Making Tulsa a Thriving Hub**
Tulsa, Oklahoma, has the potential to become a highly desirable destination for visitors, residents, and businesses alike. To achieve this goal, the city must prioritize initiatives that foster economic growth and enhance the overall quality of life.
**Flexible Work Arrangements**
Embracing flexible work arrangements could be a crucial strategy for attracting a diverse workforce and improving work-life balance. By allowing employees to work remotely or adjust their schedules, businesses can accommodate the needs of individuals with various commitments, including family responsibilities or other pursuits. This flexibility can make Tulsa a more attractive place to live and work, ultimately contributing to economic growth.
**City-Wide Three-Day Weekend**
Consideration should be given to adopting a city-wide three-day weekend schedule. This initiative would provide residents with additional leisure time, enhancing their overall well-being and creating opportunities for local businesses to cater to increased weekend demand.
**Entrepreneurship Initiatives**
Investing in entrepreneurship programs is essential for stimulating economic growth. Initiatives such as Tulsa Remote, 36 Degrees North, and the Greenwood Women's Business Center provide support and resources to both local and out-of-state entrepreneurs. By creating a conducive environment for business startups, Tulsa can attract new talent and diversify its economy.
**Entrepreneurship Education**
Instilling a passion for entrepreneurship in young minds is vital for the city's long-term economic success. Introducing entrepreneurship courses, programs, and opportunities in schools can ignite a desire to start businesses within the Tulsa community.
**Pathways to Success Program**
Stephanie has developed the 'Pathways to Success' program, an innovative initiative which aims to empower individuals of all ages to overcome challenges and achieve success. Through mentorship, skill-building workshops, and access to resources, the program provides a pathway for personal and economic growth, benefiting both individuals and the Tulsa community as a whole.
**Conclusion**
By embracing these strategies, Tulsa can transform itself into a thriving hub that attracts visitors, residents, and businesses. Flexible work arrangements, a city-wide three-day weekend, entrepreneurship initiatives, entrepreneurship education, and the 'Pathways to Success' program could collectively enhance the quality of life, boost economic growth, and establish Tulsa as a highly desirable place to visit, live, and start a business.
