Career
Social Services
- Stephanie has dedicated nearly ten years to aiding low-income individuals, families, youth, elderly and disabled, primarily in District 2.
- During Stephanie's tenure at the City of Tulsa's Housing Authority, she oversaw the daily operations of up to 3 community centers, provided assessments, planning, coordination and the delivery of services that supported economic development, health, education, safety and self-sufficiency.
- Stephanie identified barriers and offered programs that enhanced the quality of life and prepared residents to enter the work force, thereby breaking the cycle of poverty.
Program Development
- Stephanie has designed, implemented and facilitated programs related to business, entrepreneurship, self-sufficiency, life skills, parenting, safety, mentorship, crime prevention. She networked with various agencies to help provide education and facilitation of her programs.
- One of the community policing programs Stephanie developed, taught by Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, was sought out in excess demand throughout the county.
- Stephanie's "Passion to Profit" program brought in a local entrepreneur to teach, train, and motivate low-income locals in new skills that would spark current or new passions in them, encouraging them to establish their own businesses. She provided those same low-income individuals with information on a business grant available at the time through the Housing Authority.
Housing
- Stephanie worked in public housing for nearly 7 years at the City of Tulsa's Housing Authority.
- In 2017, Stephanie was promoted by Executive Management at Tulsa Housing Authority to do relocation for the $200 million dollar, nationally recognized Choice Neighborhood Initiative revitalization project in District 2's Eugene Field Neighborhood. This project, nearing completion, has involved the demolition of two low-income apartment complexes and their transformation into one brand new mixed-income community.
Revitalization
- While at THA, Stephanie developed and ran the Community Care Club which involved beautifying the properties she worked at. She worked with residents, the Tulsa Master Gardeners, Tulsa County Conservation District, up with trees & OSU. Efforts included clean ups, planting trees, flowers, etc.
Therapy
- Youth in schools Stephanie worked with a multidisciplinary approach alongside families, teachers, school administration, leaders and other supports to provided best outcomes for children to succeed and thrive emotionally, socially and academically.
- Adults with severe mental illnesses
(Such schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, personality disorders, bipolar and comorbid disorders).
Volunteer work
Crime and Safety
For the past ten years, Stephanie has been involved in reducing crime in "District 2" through the following initiatives:
- 61st & Peoria Byrne grant steering committee member,
- Eugene Field Neighborhood Crime Watch Founder,
- Partnered and worked with TPD, TCSO and crime stoppers for meetings, events and/or the development of programs,
- Developed "community policing" programs that involved Law Enforcement such as Breakfast at the Bus Stop, Secret Sheriff and the Junior Deputy Program,
- Stephanie was invited to provide input on the River West Byrne grant (preliminary input meeting).
Homeless
- Eagle Outreach- Stephanie founded this program in college to meet needs, provide resources and help homeless people rise above their challenges.
- Outreaches- to homeless with her previous church.
Reconciliation
- During our nation's most recent race riots Stephanie founded Lovolution to alleviate political, racial and social division and promote reconciliation. For further information her website is: www.jointhelovolution.org
Personal Outreaches
- During the holidays and disasters Stephanie leads her own outreaches to Nursing homes, Hospitals, low-income households, and homeless.
Church
- Stephanie has also volunteered at her previous church for disaster relief, homeless, hospitals, nursing homes.
Revitalization
Considering the broken windows theory, revitalization efforts have been associated with reduced crime rates and are known to attract more business to an area. With this in mind, Stephanie has come up with and will be working on the Nehemiah Project, dedicated to revitalizing the streets and commercial areas of 61st & Peoria with the help of community members. Engaging local residents not only fosters civic pride but also contributes to crime reduction.

- Stephanie was nominated and served as Board President for the Employee Association at the City of Tulsa's Housing Authority.

- Stephanie earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in Washington State and a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa.
- During her tenure at the University of Oklahoma Tulsa she was particularly passionate about her course work in community development, research and policy.

- Stephanie currently attends church at Power Chapel.

**Barriers to Shelter Access**
Many homeless individuals I encounter on the streets report being denied shelter due to altercations. I believe these incidents are frequently fueled by untreated mental health issues. These individuals may struggle with emotional dysregulation, communication difficulties, and difficulty adhering to rules, which can lead to misunderstandings and confrontations.
Living on the streets is an incredibly stressful experience. This stress can exacerbate mental health conditions and lead to dangerous behaviors, both for the individuals themselves and for those around them. It is evident that these individuals do not belong on the streets and require a safe and supportive environment to address their challenges and help them become more stabilized and successful.I think our city could use more supportive housing structures for those with severe mental illness as well as transitional programs to help them integrate into society with support.
**Addressing Homelessness Through Mental Health and Substance Abuse Support**
As a mental health therapist and founder of a homeless initiative, I have witnessed the debilitating impact that mental illness and substance abuse disorders can have on individuals experiencing homelessness. These conditions often hinder individuals from reaching their full potential and thriving in society. I would like to ensure we are doing all we can to address mental well-being of our homeless so they can overcome challenges holding them back in life.
To effectively address homelessness, we need to provide more intensive therapeutic services for individuals with mental illness and substance abuse disorders. These services can help to stabilize individuals, reduce symptoms, and improve their coping mechanisms. By providing these services, we can create a pathway for individuals to break the cycle of homelessness and regain their independence.
